ENNIS, Texas — Clay Millican took the No. 1 Top Fuel qualifying position Saturday in the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals at Texas Motorplex.
Millican topped the field with his second qualifying run, a 3.726-second pass at 328.54 mph. He’s seeking his third victory of the season and fourth of his career.
« It will definitely be a different day tomorrow, » Millican said. « This race track is phenomenal and both lanes are incredible. This is going to be fun. I mean, this is the ultimate playoffs for the fans with the cars running like that in this kind of heat and humidity. It’s awesome. »
Tommy Johnson Jr. topped the Funny Car field, Jeg Coughlin Jr. was fastest in Pro Stock, and Eddie Krawiec was No. 1 in Pro Stock Motorcycle in the third of six events in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship.
Johnson had a 3.918 at 321.73 during the final session Saturday in a Dodge Charger R/T. Coughlin had a 6.599 at 207.53 from Friday in a Chevrolet Camaro, and Krawiec had a 6.873 at 196.07 on a Harley-Davidson during the third qualifying session.
